Ingredients to create the perfect tomato rice:

  1. 1 cup basmati rice
  2. ¼ packet Kagome Crushed Tomato 
  3. 1 onion, finely chopped
  4. 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  5. 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
  6. 1 green chili, finely chopped
  7. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  8. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  9. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  11. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
  14. 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for about 15 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan or a deep skillet over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent and lightly golden.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes.
  5. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes to allow the spices to infuse into the tomato mixture.
  6. Add the soaked and drained rice to the pan. Gently mix it with the tomato mixture, ensuring that each grain is coated evenly.
  7. Pour in 2 cups of water and give it a quick stir. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid.
  8. Allow the rice to cook undisturbed for about 1520 minutes or until the rice is tender and cooked through.
  9. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pan from heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  10. Fluff the rice gently with a fork. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot and enjoy the tangy and aromatic tomato rice as a delicious main course or side dish.
